Current Shelter FAQs

The Sisters Cold Weather Shelter intends to operate an emergency shelter and resource center to provide essential and lifesaving services for our unhoused neighbors. The facility will be run in a manner that is safe and respectful of all guests, neighbors, and community members.

Emergency Shelter Information

Winter operations are envisioned as in previous years, November through March from 6 pm to 7 am.

● Volunteers will serve as monitors and provide a warm meal from 6 pm to 10 pm. Paid staff will monitor from 10 pm to 7 am.

● Guests must adhere to a strict Code of Conduct that includes no weapons or dangerous items on the premises, behaving respectfully, refraining from drug and alcohol use while on the premises, and not loitering near the building or in the neighborhood before and after open hours. Guests will also not be allowed to leave the premises and re-enter once they arrive for the evening.

● Separate sleeping areas will be provided for men, women, and families.

● Smoking will be allowed in a designated outdoor area only.

● Summer operations are envisioned on an as-needed basis. The shelter will be open for any community member who needs respite from extreme heat or smoke during the day. The shelter may also operate overnight when dangerous levels of smoke are present.

Resource Center Information

The center will provide essential services such as showers and laundry. It will also partner with county and other agencies to provide mental health, addiction, and housing resources.

● Paid staff and volunteers will operate the center for limited hours each week. Specific times have not yet been decided.

● All guests must adhere to the Code of Conduct mentioned above.

Any changes to operations will be communicated here and on our Facebook page.

An e-newsletter is also envisioned for future communications. To be included on the distribution list, please email: sisterscoldweathershelter@gmail.com
